Grrl just called to tell me that her son has been taken to the NICU because he's having breathing problems and has developed a fever. I'll update as soon as I hear back from her. Please send thoughts and prayers.
*** GOOD NEWS! ***
I was just getting ready to post an update to let you all know that there was still no word, when the phone rang. Grrl told me that after a very long and scary night in the NICU, her son's condition has improved and today he is doing well. Of course, he will continue to be monitored, but things are looking good. So YAY!
My heart has finally slowed to a normal rhythm and my hands have stopped shaking, making it much easier to type this update. I let Grrl know that the entire internet has been sending good wishes and prayers her way and she thanks all of you. And I do, too.
Oh good god. I hate the universe right now. Danae -- please update as soon as you can.

Good vibes, thoughts and prayers heading eastward for Gefilte Boy and family. This veteran of one too many "Maternity Ward" and "Birth Story" shows is sure this is just a bump on the road to home with Grrl and Dad. It HAS to be, that's all there is to it.

Long labors with broken water sometimes lead to infections...This happened to my son, 5 days in the NICU and scads of antibiotics and he was good to go. The breathing problems he had then never amounted to anything, so everybody breathe and think good thoughts for them.

Oh my! I just checked in for the first time since Mr. W got home for dinner and saw this post before the happier one below.
I am praying that all turns out OK. After all that it has taken to get to this point, it just has to; if there is any justice in the world, it will be.

They have my thoughts and prayers. My daughter had breathing issues at birth too- so she spent 5 days in the NICU, but you could never tell it now by looking at her....

Although I absolutely HATE that there's been a damned bump in the road, I just know everything will soon be 100% fine. Congratulations on the arrival of your sweet boy, grrl and mr.grrl!
My son--who's been healthy as a horse his whole life (and pretty much the size of one, too!)--was whisked away from me immediately after birth. As others have said, The Powers That Be err on the side of caution.
All involved are in my prayers--including you, Danae!

This happened to my son too. He was in the NICU for a week after birth. As a result he had asthma every time he a cold for the first year, but I'm happy to say no futher complications. If it was a rough labor he's probably low on sirphactin(sp?). I'm thinking of her. Give her love from the internet.

So glad that gefilte was finally born! And sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers to the whole troop.
Thanks for updating so quickly Danae. At least Grrl knows she has hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people sending her good thoughts and prayers. Not too many people can say that : )

But all the cool kids go to the NICU -- Tertia's babies, Julie's baby, practically Gefilte's whole playgroup. And they're all fine. And Gefilte will be too.
Poor Grrl though, just what she DOESN'T need right now!
And poor Sarah! How long was she in labor??

Both posts came up as I refreshed. I was so happy to see the first post - right to the point of tears! - and then I saw the second post. To the first post, CONGRATULATIONS!! To the second, I'm sick to my stomach thinking that harm might come to the new baby boy, but I am heartened by the stories that others have told of short visits to the NICU followed by healthy, happy lives. Keep those stories coming, y'all. Sending good vibes to Gelfiite Boy and the rest of the crew. SVGHH, and NBWH.

He'll be fine. Much love to all. And can I just say I hope their last name is not Fisher? Gefilte Fisher. Thinking muchly of you all. Peace.
Posted by: kate | Monday, July 25, 2005 at 09:24 PM
what more do they have to go through?
A HUGE congratulations to the Grrl family, a huge thank you to Sarah - she must have had a really tough time, I hope she recovers well.
And a HUGE thumbs down to the universe which would allow Grrl and Mr Grrl and Gefilte and Sarah to have to cope with the NICU. Just not fair, even if it's only a short stay, which I am hoping it is.

(I realize the whole "we" thing is being pretty generous with other people's money.)
Just floating the idea.
And Mr. Grrl doesn't get enough props, either.

It has to be ok, it has to be ok, it has TO! So many prayers, good thoughts, crossed digits, incense, whatever! However, my first spent a week in the NICU for breathing problems and she is the healthiest 24 yr old now! Good vibes heading Gelfite's way.

I'm upset for the families, but I'm not terribly worried for Gefilte. Gd that sounds awful. Does it even make any sense? :-(
I think the docs work on the better safe than sorry system. So many of us have had young'uns in the NICU, and have lived to tell the tale.
But nonetheless, this is not how one wants things to be. So poor Grrl, poor Sarah, poor little Gefilte. Many hugs to all the Gefilte families.
And to Danae as well. I can only hope she's on the right coast too. ;-)
Sending prayers from France.

Congrats and Good thoughts! I'm begining to see why Grrl closed her post. All of the internet goings "more, more, tell us MORE!" and living each up and down with her--the pressure! Man, you are a peach, Danae for putting up with all of us. Not that realizing this will stop me from my obsessive refreshing. :)

I'm sure he'll be fine. Full term, and all that jazz. Yes, docs tend to err on the side of caution... He'll get a few days ( or less, hopefully) in a nice comfy isolette, then head home with Mommie and Daddy.
CONGRATULATIONS
